plasticity of consciousness

the delicate nature of the mind

individualized construction of reality

BRAIN IS A RADIO harnesses these concepts to create an immersve auditory and visual experience.

Brain is a Radio explores the intersection of technology and dance. With the dancers’ bodies creating ever-shifting physical landscapes, psychoacoustic music, projections utilizing processing-based visualizations, and even a virtual reality film component, the performance experience is akin to being inside a kaleidoscopic screensaver.

Drawn to the intersections of science and art, technology and nature, Miller explores the innate links between these seemingly opposite ideas through her kinetic choreography. Inspired by her background in video game design as well as the work of Oliver Sacks on consciousness and individual cognition, Miller crafts imaginative choreography that is lush, raw, and virtuosic. The work also delves into the darker side of consciousness. It’s exploration of the instability and alienation cognitive abnormalities can create gives Brain is a Radio an emotional heft. With abstract characters and morphing patterns often based on coding algorithms, Brain is a Radio showcases both the humanity and elegance of technology.
